Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA

28 December 2024 to 12 Feb 2025

Introduction

We start off by heading out in December. Our stay initially was going to be cut a few weeks short as the owner was taking it over 15 Mar. Oh, 15 Mar but does that mean I made an error when I inserted the end date of 12 Feb? Wait for it and you'll see what type of "snowbird" experience we had in 2025.

DECEMBER

We stopped at many Cracker Barrel on the way down...well this one was in Watertown (so we didn't get that far) lol

We loved the Residence Inn in Wilkes-Barre

A Mexican meal -last stop night before arriving in Myrtle Beach

On arrival we took our photo on the balcony

We noticed they had been working on the condo beside ours

Then we went for a bite to eat

...and then off to the Carolina Opry

Whenever we see the dancers, we always think that our granddaughter, Arianna, could be one of those.

JANUARY

Always a beautiful sunrise

Well, it was colder than normal but not as cold as Canada lol I enjoy the walks and the sound of the water as I listen to my books.

The balcony was still accessible at this time so I got a chair and sat in the sun

As the Calendar shows, January was not a kind month for us. On the 11th Sharon had trouble breathing so we rushed her to the hospital. After a few hours and some attention, she was released and her "problem" never resurfaced.

When she was better we did a few walks in the mall

On 24 Jan we had a visitor from Canada....SNOW

My walk in the sand and snow

Sharon made that snowball from our balcony

Now the workers were getting close

Sharon was relegated to reading "near" the door

Yes, that is Sharon in the gym with me!!

Every Wednesday there is BINGO in the condo, so we went.

Not to be outdone, I also was having issues for about a week. At 3am on the 28th I couldn't take it anymore and called an ambulance. They brought me to South Grand Strand where I was treated and then sent me by ambulance to Grand Strand Hospital where I was sent for an immediate operation. My surgeon was a female Urologist (I say that because there are only 11% female Urologists in America). She found Kidney Stones and they were infected so the stones couldn't be removed. I was released and told a follow-up would be required on the 6th Feb. Looking at the time-line, I knew then that things were going to be problematic. My 40 day coverage with PSHCP (Canada Life) was ending on the 5th Feb and MADOC was starting the 6th Feb.

Then I got released the next day, they have a room where you go over everything that they expect of you.

FEBRUARY

On the 6th Feb I got permission to go see the Dr.

Sharon with me

The analysis was that I still had infection and they could operate the week of the 20th Feb.

On the 9th of Feb we celebrated Vicki's birthday

Then our last meal at Cracker Barrel

I discussed the results with my insurance and they decided that they wanted me home. I couldn't argue but I said I would not leave my wife alone to drive the car back to Canada. On 12th Feb, they flew us home from Myrtle Beach, connection to LaGuardia in NY to Toronto where a car met us and drove us home. While this was going on, our car was picked up by a commercial enterprise and driven back home. It arrived on the 15th.

I would caution people to never go out of country without travel insurance. You just never know.

When we finally arrived home, sitting on the dinning room table, Kathryn and family left us a nice surprise

And a meal

Thank you one and all for visiting the adventures of Tassé Snow-Birding in 2025. We have already booked the same location (hopefully without the same results) for 2026!
